This acoustic folk/rock duo features Monique Houraghan with her distinctive 'honey-like' vocal, and Dan Tucker with an intricate finger style guitar technique. Their laid back tunes range from the melancholy, with compositions such as 'Behind the Smile' about unrequited love, to uplifting and inspiring tunes such as 'Out on My Own'. The pair have been writing and performing original material since 1997.
Tinderbox performances continue to receive excellent reviews, even being described by one German critic as 'a miracle in a small matchbox'. Influenced by artists such as James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Counting Crows, the Eagles and Jewel; Tinderbox have developed a varied and dynamic repertoire.
Irish born Monique met Dan at University in Yorkshire in 1994 and began performing together when their arts degree came to an end. In 1997 they moved to Dublin where they continued to write new material and perform to enthusiastic crowds.
From March 2001 Tinderbox spent 2 years travelling the world. During this time they acquired an agent in Australia and performed dozens of gigs in Melbourne and Sydney. This provided vital experience and also helped to further enhance their repertoire.
Tinderbox have since performed in countries ranging from Germany, Hong Kong and Fiji, to New Zealand, Australia and Thailand.
On their return to the UK Monique and Dan settled in Bournemouth where they have resided since late 2004. After a busy 12 months writing and recording, Tinderbox are now actively looking to promote their act through live performances as well as through their website - www.tinderboxacoustic.com.
Tinderbox have recently made it to the finals of the Dorset Unsigned Music Awards and are appearing at this year's Bournemouth Live! Music festival.
With Monique's powerful voice and Dan's delectable guitar style Tinderbox is definitely an acoustic duo to look out for.
