Industrial-flavoured, drum-machine driven 3 piece based in Birmingham, cooked up by old friends Simon and Steve on bass and guitars - coming together sometime in 2004 to engineer the dark, heavy sounds that constitute the foundations of Sinistra. Some time later they recruited newbie vocalist Sarah to front, with the aim of creating a Garbage-esque setup with Curve-inspired sound, led by a charismatic female frontwoman. Fiercely off-kilter lyrics and melody are laid down over the distinctive music by Sarah, strong and emotional female vocals complimenting the inexorable basslines and heavy electronic guitars. Sinistra have been together as a whole for 6 months and made their debut appearance at Scruffy Murphy's (Dale End, B'ham) on Friday 15th July, with fellow debuting female-fronted punk/rock band Strangetime also performing.
Personal influences range far and wide from The Cure, Sonic Youth and Morrissey to Rasputina, Rammstein and Sleater-Kinney.
